Man-Eater by Daniel Disselkoen

Here is a short video of the graduation project of Daniel Disselkoen, at the Royal Academy of Arts (UK). A very simple and fun way to upgrade a boring bus/tramway ride.

For four years, each day I took the same tram to art academy. Why would you then look out the window with curiosity when there is no reason to expect anything new. I decided to change the daily journey for my fellow passengers and myself. I wouldn’t move the tramway track, but maybe I could add something. Make something so that what already exists would look very different now.

Blind Self Portrait Machine by Kyle McDonald and Matt Mets

“Blind Self Portrait Machine” is collaboration between Kyle McDonald and Matt Mets. They’ve build a machine which can help you draw your own self portrait.

While the visitor keeps their eyes shut, a moving platform guides a pen in their hand to draw a self-portrait, using computer vision to track their face and generate a line drawing. The result is a machine-aided drawing, a self-portrait you could never draw.

Bonne St-Valentin !

A BIG red heart pulses with glowing light in a grove of glass rods. A single person can activate the beating heart but joining hands with others will make the heart beat even faster to create a brighter burning heart.

The 10-foot tall glowing sculpture consists of 400 transparent, LED lit, acrylic tubes that form a cube around a suspended heart. The hovering heart pulsates faster reflecting the vibrant human energy in the heart of Times Square.

Play by Jessica Lichtenstein at gallery nine5

Lichtenstein explores the relationship between materialism and sexuality through the recontextualization of popular Japanese erotic imagery.

Fascinated by the mass‐production and fetishism of hyper‐sexualized Japanese figurines, Lichtenstein juxtaposes mass produced anime dolls and pornographic comic book characters in ironic situations in order to imbue them with new associations and richer meanings. Lichtenstein challenges her audience to engage with and question the function of these images from a Western perspective; to weigh how much of the images’ sexuality is ascribed by the spectator.

Love the chair !
